Identity Disc Bracelet : Lieutenant F A Comins, 3 Light Horse Field Ambulance, AIF
Silver metal identity disc manufactured from an Egyptian coin, on a chain bracelet. Obverse of the disc is engraved 'LT. F.A. COMINS / 3RD. L.H.B. / F.A. / R.C.'. Reverse retains the original details on the Egyptian coin. Cardboard presentation box is printed in gold on the lid 'WATCHMAKER'S & MANUFG. JEWELLERS / T.M. Alcock & Sons / ESTABD. / 1872 / 669 / GEORGE ST. / HAYMARKET / SYDNEY'. In jeweller's burgundy coloured cardboard presentation box.
Associated with Francis (Frank) Aloysius Comins. He was a senior cadet corporal in 1910 and was selected to join the contingent that travelled to England for the coronation of George V in 1911, and later became an officer in the Reserve Forces. He was made an Honorary Lieutenant in the AIF on 1 March 1916 and posted overseas on 12 February 1917. He returned to Australia on 25 December 1918. He was mentioned in despatches on 5 March 1919, 'for gallant and distinguished services in the Field', and awarded an OBE (military) on 3 June 1919, for meritorious services in Palestine, where he was in charge of the Dental Corps.
