Fire Support Base Diggers Rest, South Vietnam. 1969-10. The Secretary of the Department of Defence, Sir Henry Bland (third from left), is shown a 106mm recoilless rifle by Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Graeme Downey of Heathmont, Vic (left) at Fire Support Base (FSB) Diggers' Rest in a rubber plantation in western Phuoc Tuy Province. L Cpl Downey is a member of the 9th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (9RAR), which is protecting the artillery fire base. With Sir Henry is the Commander of the Australian Force in Vietnam (COMAFV), Major General R. A. Hay of Red Hill, ACT (right), and the Commanding Officer of 9RAR, Lieutenant Colonel A. L. Morrison of Woodside, SA. Sir Henry's visit to the FSB was one stop on his three day visit to the war zone.
