Description

Cairo, Egypt. 1918. Informal portrait of Mildred L. Davies MBE (Mrs Jack R. C. Davies) who as a member of the Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) took her young children with her while she worked as a volunteer in the administration of hospitals in the Middle East, including the Heliopolis Palace Hotel in Cairo. Her duties included the administration of hospital and medical stores and by the end of 1917 she was in charge of the Red Cross Voluntary Aid Detachment (VAD) in the area. (Donor E. Davies)
