Description
Typescript history (94 pages) titled `100 odd mates: the story of the 2nd Mountain Battery - AIF' written by Ron K. (Slim) Gailer and edited by Edd (Springheel) Morris. The manuscript provides a detailed and vivid description based on the 2nd Mountain Battery (Mechanised) Unit War Diary and personal recollections. The blend of operational and personal recollections and anecdotes covers the period August 1943 to September 1945 and describes living conditions, local inhabitants, unit activities, weather, mateship and gun emplacement while serving in New Guinea and on Bougainville. Places described include Finschhafen, Finisterre Range, Kumbarum, Yacopi, Torokina, Tsimba Redge, Genga River and Numa Numa Trail. It contains copies of hand drawn illustrations, maps, a unit nominal roll and a poem entitled `The Gunners'.
