Four soldiers of D Company, 6RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment), back in base after Operation Quyet Thang, a joint operation with the 3rd Battalion, 52nd Regiment of the 18th Division of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN). Left to right: Lance Corporal Bill Henney of Ingham, Qld, with an M16 automatic rifle; Pte Montey Paul of Glen Huon, Tas, with a 7.62mm SLR rifle; Private (Pte) Leonard Bartz of South Brook, Qld, with an M60 machine gun; Corporal Brian Halls of Stafford, Qld, with an M16 automatic rifle and carrying a radio. Theirs had been a gruelling five-days, 1969-11-02 to 1969-11-06, patrolling the mountainous Nui Thi Vai area. D Company had spent the previous six weeks from 1969-09-15 to 1969-11-03 retraining the Vietnamese in Australian tactics at the Horseshoe. Corporal Halls had also taken part in the Battle of Long Tan as a member of D Company.
