Description

Singapore. c. 1945. Underground tunnels constructed by civilians to be used as fortifications by the Japanese at Singapore. These excavations were carried out all over the island and many civilians and prisoners of war (POWs) were killed and injured by the tunnels collapsing on them. This work is contrary to international law, but POWs were forced to do it under threat of death.
