Description

New Delhi, India. 10 February 1945. Informal group portrait of the RAAF cricket team which played a 'Test' match against an RAF team, taking the field. The most important sporting fixture this year was the cricket 'Test', England v. Australia, played by teams representing the RAF and RAAF in India and Burma. In their first meeting in 1944, England won on the first innings, but in the second encounter on 10 and 11 February 1945, the Australian XI, led by former Test captain, Flight Lieutenant Vic Richardson, won by ten wickets. Wide publicity was given to the game and both days' play was broadcast by all India Radio. Many RAAF servicemen and former Australians domiciled in India watched the game.
