The former Commander of Australian Force Vietnam (COMAFV), Major General R. A. Hay of Red Hill, ACT, talks with the Chairman of the Vietnamese General Staff, General (Gen) Cao Van Vien, after Gen Hay was made an Officer of the National Order of Vietnam. The award was made by Gen Vien at the headquarters of the Vietnamese services. Gen Hay has commanded the Australian commitment to the war for the past year and will assume command of the 1st Division, based in Sydney, NSW, on his return to Australia.
