Yellow cotton apron : Bessie Cooper : American Center Sydney
Yellow cotton pinafore apron with ruffle trimming over the shoulders and on the two pockets on the lower apron front. An embroidered shield-shaped blue badge featuring a crude interpretation of an American eagle (which was the logo of the Centre) has been sewn to the left breast, forming a small pocket. A pair of buttons on each waist tie attach to the shoulder straps which have three buttons holes sewn into them. One of the buttons is an opalescent button and the other is patterned plastic. There are two buttons missing from the waist ties.
Associated with Bessie Mabel Cooper, a volunteer staff member of the American Centre in Sydney, during the Second World War. The American Centre was established by the American Society in Elizabeth Street. Many Australian public buildings were requisitioned for American use during the war, including schools, hospitals and other public institutions.
