Description
Private diary, covering 26 August 1914 to 28 January 1916, kept by Major Edgar Charles Foster MC, of the 1st Division's 2nd Field Artillery Ammunition Column. The diary entries describe his experiences during enlistment, training, active service at Gallipoli and hospitalisation in England and subsequent repatriation after being wounded in action during September 1915. In addition to detailed descriptive daily entries, the diary contains numerous notes on signalling procedures and miscellaneous notes. Also: two cinema tickets, an illustrated list of signal flags (for letters of alphabet) and set of typed procedures: "Points to be considered by Telephonists".
