Description
Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. April 1970. Private John Thurgar of Scone, NSW, a member of the 1st Special Air Service Squadron, leads the field in the Long Dien to Baria 5000 metre race. He went on to win the race. Villagers on motor cycles and an Army vehicle follow the runners. Twenty five Australians and New Zealanders and twelve Vietnamese took part in the race, which was designed to help foster understanding and co-operation between the soldiers of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base at Nui Dat and people of the province.
