Description

Nui Dat, South Vietnam. April 1970. Military Medal winner Corporal (Cpl) Barry Coe of Penrith, NSW, is given his ribbon by the quartermaster of C Company, the 8th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (8RAR), Staff Sergeant George McGovern of Keperra, Qld, after learning of the award. Cpl Coe, a support section commander with the company, was on operations in the Long Hai hills, south east of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base in February 1970, when infantry and armoured units came under heavy attack by Viet Cong armed with rocket propelled grenades. He risked his life in helping to save five comrades trapped in an armoured personnel carrier hit by enemy fire.
