Royal Military College, Canberra. May 1967. Major (Maj) Ron James, 36, with his wife Barbara and son, before he left for Vietnam. In 1952 in Korea, as a member of 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), he and 12 men stormed a hill occupied by Chinese. A mine blew up, killing one man and wounding others. Maj James had one leg blown off to the knee and most of his right foot also injured. He then spent fourteen months in hospital. From 1958 to 1963, he studied medicine at Sydney University. In 1964, seven years after leaving the Army, he again joined up.
