Description

Australia. February 1967. Singer Lorrae Desmond, posing in uniform, gets a grip on a 9mm Browning pistol. She is one of a concert party of eighteen, which will leave for South Vietnam on 1 March. Lorrae, a radio and television personality for fifteen years will travel with the ABC Dance Band, singer Dinah Lee, Jacqueline De Paul, and comedian Bobbie Donovan. The concert party, which has been organised by the Army, is the biggest to go on tour in South-East Asia. According to the Eastern Command Amenities Officer, Major Tom Willington, it is bigger than any that was played before Australian occupation forces in Japan after the Second World War.
