Battle training for the 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (7RAR), mortar platoon. The battalion moved into the Army's Shoalwater Bay Training Area, north of Rockhampton, Qld, in preparation for Exercise Nilla Qua. Seen during live firing practice with the 81mm mortar are, 19976 Private John "Andy" (Bobo) Bobongie, 24, (left) of Mackay, Qld, and Jim Molony, 22, of Camooweal, Qld. The battalion will receive final training during Exercise Nilla Qua before it moves to Vietnam between April and June. Pte Bobongie is of South Sea Islander descent.
