Description
Private R. A. Stone of Banyo, Qld, one of the first men of Brisbane's own 8th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (8RAR), to step onto Australian soil from the HMAS Sydney as it berthed in the Brisbane River. Along with 400 other soldiers he had spent almost twelve months on active service in South Vietnam. The trip aboard HMAS Sydney, took twelve days from Vung Tau. A ticker-tape parade through Brisbane streets after the arrival climaxed an eventful day for the Enoggera based 8RAR.
