Captain (Capt) Neil Weekes, MC, of Blacktown, NSW, with wife Lyn and parents John and Edna Weekes of Mackay, Qld, share a toast at Government House after Capt Weekes had received the Military Cross (MC) in recognition of his brilliant leadership and outstanding devotion to duty in Vietnam. A graduate of the National Service Officer Training Unit, Scheyville, NSW, in 1967, he was later stationed there as an instructor. Capt Weekes, a platoon commander with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), received the award for his actions during fighting at Fire Support Base (FSB) Coral during the 1968 Tet Offensive.
