Description
Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. June 1971. Private (Pte) Robert (Groucho) Allen of Balaclava, Vic, with his unit's mascot, Hardrock the monkey. Hardrock had jumped out of nowhere and was inspecting the M60 machine gun mounted on a tripod manned by Pte Allen. Pte Allen is a member of the Defence and Employment Platoon of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF), and so too is Hardrock. She was given to the platoon as a gift of appreciation by the people of Cam My village on the Province border.
Pte Allen has a tattoo on his left forearm. The design incorporates a styilised eagle's head and dagger.
