Vung Tau, South Vietnam. May 1970. A beach barbecue, and cans of Victoria Bitter (VB) beer, brought together 200 sappers from Australian and New Zealand electrical and mechanical engineering units working in South Vietnam. The occasion was to celebrate the Queen's approval for an alliance between the Royal Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RAEME) and the Royal New Zealand Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RNZEME). Senior RAEME and RNZEME officers from left, are: Major A. A. Nolan of Eastwood, WA; Lieutenant Colonel K. A. Gibson of East Doncaster, Vic; Captain M. M. Fair of NZ; Major Donald Wylie of Wahroonga, NSW; Captain R. Pankhurst of NZ.
