Calcutta, India. c. October 1945. After being identified with all phases of the aerial war in Mountbatten's South East Asia Command, the first large draft of RAAF aircrew to leave since Japan's capitulation embarked on the SS Sontay. They are due to arrive at Fremantle, NSW, on 17 October 1945 and Sydney, NSW, on 27 October 1945. Waiting to board the ship are three RAAF navigators who kept together throughout their service careers. They left Australia together in July 1943, and were together in Canada, America, England, India, and Burma. Left to right: 422579 Flying Officer (FO) S. T. Jones of Gidginbung, NSW; 420684 FO D. L.
