Calcutta, India. c. October 1945. After being identified with all phases of the aerial war in Mountbatten's South East Asia Command, the first large draft of RAAF aircrew to leave since Japan's capitulation embarked on the SS Sontay. They are due to arrive at Fremantle, NSW, on 17 October 1945 and Sydney, NSW, on 27 October 1945. Both 430810 Warrant Officer (WO) R. V. (Chota) Mayo of Glen Iris, Vic, and 434840 WO M. H. (Mick) Pullen of North Melbourne, Vic, a North Melbourne Australian Rules footballer, hope a 'red-cap' (railway porter) will be there to meet them when they disembark.
