Informal portrait of Private (Pte) William Speakman, the winner of the second Victoria Cross (VC) to be awarded for gallantry in the Korean War. Pte Speakman is a member of the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders attached to B Company, The Kings Own Scottish Borderers. Pte Speakman is wearing his VC ribbon (note the miniature VC device attached) above the left breast pocket of his uniform. The presentation was made during a special parade in the battalion lines in Korea. Pte Speakman won the VC for his actions in a battle in the Kowang San area on 4 November 1951.
