Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. September 1971. 5 Company, Royal Australian Army Service Corps ...
Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. September 1971. 5 Company, Royal Australian Army Service Corps (RAASC) achieved a milestone in their service in Phuoc Tuy Province when the Company's vehicles chalked up a total of four million miles. The unit came to South Vietnam in May 1967 and has been supplying troops in the Province with everything from rations to petrol since then. The first two million miles were achieved by August 1969, and the four million followed in August this year. Most of the miles were covered by dump vehicles giving engineer support and daily maintenance convoys. The Company celebrated the record with a buffet lunch and party at the 1st Australian Logistic Support Group (1ALSG), earlier this month, during which the Deputy Assistant Director of Supplies and Transport (DADST) Australian Force Vietnam (AFV) Major Alan Corboy (right) presented Corporal Larry Goodall, President of the Mess Committee (PMC) of the Other Ranks (ORs) canteen, with a shield recording the four million miles.
