South Vietnam. June 1970. A 'Chicom' grenade was among Viet Cong (VC) equipment found by soldiers of the 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (7RAR), in a bunker system near Long Tan, six miles east of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base at Nui Dat. Examining the grenade are, left to right: Lance Corporal Rod Lyons of Kirribilli, NSW; Private (Pte) Robert Wall of Cronulla, NSW; Pte Gerard Ireland of Mayne, Qld. All are soldiers of the 1st Platoon, A Company, 7RAR, which clashed with a strong VC force in the bunker system.
