Lennon, John Leslie (Sergeant, b.1902 - d.1970)
Papers of NX32826 Sergeant John Leslie Lennon, General Base Depot, 8th Division AIF, relating to his service in the Second World War and especially the fall of Singapore and his time in Changi Prisoner of War (POW) Camp. The papers include two handwritten notebooks containing notes on the Malayan campaign, transcripts of various official documents relating to the fall of Singapore, diary entries on routines and events (e.g Anzac Day service) in Changi and notes on the executions of civilians, nurses and soldiers. There is also a handwritten nominal roll of General Base Depot personnel, written on the back of Changi Convict Prison pay records (6 pages); a handwritten narrative (6 pages) entitled "Impressions of my first bombing raid"; and a handwritten transcript (3 pages) entitled "Article by British war correspondent in Malaya" describing the reluctance of the Australians to surrender.
