Rabaul, New Britain. c. 1946. Informal portrait of Lieutenant General Sakamoto Sueo, Rabaul who was tried for war crimes. Lt Gen Sakamoto came to Rabaul in December 1942 and was in charge of shipping while with the No. 4 Shipping Headquarters unit. From July 1944 he commanded the 39 Brigade Independent Mixed Unit, which appointment he held until the end of the war. (Donor M. Williams)
