Sama Bay, Hainan Island. c. 28 August 1945. Informal portrait of Captain Leonard Woods, a member of the US Office of Strategic Services, who was responsible for the liberation of Allied prisoners of war (POWs) on Hainan Island. He had requested permission to attempt a liberating raid early in 1945 but had been refused.
