Description
Laha, Ambon. 8 December 1945. The Dutch garage building (referred to in 'The Laha Massacres') on the road from Laha Wharf headquarters buildings to Tawiri and the Lawa River, Ambon. To the right is a Japanese truck and the armoured hull of an Australian Bren carrier. The significance of the picture lies in the fact that Mass Grave No. 1 is in the jungle about thirty yards beyond the carrier, and it must have been in one of the palm trees depicted that Christian Nikijuluw, an Ambonese, was concealed, and much against his will observed 67 executions taking place on 20 February 1942.
