Description
New Guinea. Kokoda Track. Sergeant W. R. Edmonds of N.S.W. displays a Japanese officer's sword. The handle is covered with shark skin which glistens when the light catches the raised bumps on the skin. The skin is partially covered by a woven cotton strip bound around the handle. The hilt is gilded and this sword was used in combat during the close fighting before Wairopi. (Negative by G. Silk).
