Description
Men of the 2/2 Battalion grouped around a captured Japanese mountain gun which was taken at bayonet point; a local man in the background. Another gun was dismantled, wrapped in blankets and buried by the Japanese. It has now been dug up and assembled. The gun pictured was taken through the Owen Stanleys when the Japanese advanced towards Port Moresby. The machine gun was also captured from the Japanese. Identified, second from left is NX1478 Private William Edward 'Bill' Webber of Bowraville NSW.
