Description
Maxim MG08 Heavy Machine Gun. The breech top cover plate is marked with the serial number, MG08 Gwf SPANDAU 1917. A brass plate on the barrel jacket is stamped CAPTURED LIEUT HOLDSWORTH 18 BATTALION AIF NEAR WARFUSEE AUG 8TH 1918. The barrel jacket has G7475 in red paint and 18th Bn AIF in white paint. The gun is complete except for the left hand oil brush for the spade grip.
History / Summary
Captured by Lieutenant John Allen Holdsworth, 18th Battalion on 8 August 1918 at Warfusee. Holdsworth survived the war and returned to Australia in 1919.
