Studio portrait of 3105 Private (Pte) John Akers. A framer from Mt Burrell via Uki, NSW prior to enlistment, Pte Akers embarked with the 8th Reinforcements, 52nd Battalion from Sydney on HMAT Demosthenes on 23 December 1916. On 29 September 1917 he was killed in action at Polygon Wood, aged 32, and having no known grave he is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium. (Donor Mrs H. Akers)
