Description
A captured heavy artillery piece on a flat car in Alexadria Railway Yard. On the right is an Allied Grant tank. On the left is a German 170mm K18 Mortar Carriage cannon, which were introduced in service in 1941. It could fire 1 - 2 rounds per minute (40 per hour) and was designed so that, in action, the gun could be easily rotated through 360 degrees by one man. When captured, these guns were often used by Allied artillery troops in Europe.
