Description

South Vietnam. October 1970. A Buddhist priest and the widow of Nguyen Ngoc Thanh head the funeral procession of the first Bushman Scout killed in action with the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) in South Vietnam. Thanh was killed in August when an armoured personnel carrier (APC) detonated a heavy enemy mine. Many Australians stood at the grave in chilling monsoonal rain, paying tribute to a Viet Cong who had become their friend.
