Description

Tain, Scotland. c. May 1945. Group portrait of crew of G for George, 86 (Liberator) Squadron, RAF, Coastal Command, taken in front of their plane. This crew took part in an action on 5 May 1945 where German U-boat U534, a type IXC/40 submarine commanded by Kapitanleutnant Herbert Nollau, was sunk. U534 had been travelling on the surface in formation with two other U-boats. The Captain, Warrant Officer (WO) J. D. Nicol, was awarded the DFC as a result of this action.
