Informal portrait of members of No 3 Squadron RAAF with two motorbikes scrounged from the desert. From left to right: 14827 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Brian Metcalfe Gates of Mudgie NSW sitting on a German (Zundapp), Mudgie, Frenchy, 29166 Sergeant (Sgt) Felix William Sainsbury of Perth WA, and 17794 Sgt Kevin Joseph Barker of Perth on an Italian Motoguzzi Alce. The motorbike on the left has a faint outline of a ? 21 Divisional Panzer marking. LAC Gates was lost during a ground battle in Libya on 18 December 1943.
