Paybook photograph, taken on enlistment, of NX19562 Sapper Aubrey Clifford Zinn, 2/6th Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers. He was one of over 2000 Allied prisoners of war (POW) held in the Sandakan POW camp in north Borneo, having been transferred there after being captured in Java. Sapper Zinn, aged 37, died as a prisoner of the Japanese on 20 November 1944, in Labuan. He was the son of Christian and Winifred Zinn and the nephew of Mr E. Zinn, of Cape Town, South Africa. He is commemorated on the Labuan Memorial Panel 5.
