Description

Use of transport planes in New Guinea enables speedy evacuation of wounded from forward areas to the base. Compared with their trek across the Owen Stanleys, which took days, wounded have been flown back in almost as many minutes. A stretcher case being lifted from a transport plane, tail fin no. 118588, which brought wounded to the base from front line areas, to be transferred to a waiting ambulance (not in view). Identified, QX8611 Private John Large, 2/2 Motor Ambulance Corps (not wearing a shirt), all others unidentified.
