Paybook photograph, taken on enlistment, of VX61084 Private Walter Douglas 'Henry' Ford, 2/29th Battalion, Australian Infantry. He was one of over 2000 Allied prisoners of war (POW) held in the Sandakan POW camp in north Borneo. Private Ford was transferred to Kuching gaol on 8 June 1943, later volunteering for the party going to Labuan Island, where he died, aged 23, died as a prisoner of the Japanese on 3 December 1944. He was the son of Arthur and Lyla Irene Ford, of West Melbourne, Vic. He is commemorated on the Labuan Memorial Panel 16.
