NSW. Paybook photograph of NX2675 Private Ronald David Mathieson, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Mathieson, aged 25, died on 18 February 1945, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being captured defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Hugh Bowden Mathieson and Neta Bertha Mathieson, of Bellingen, NSW. He is buried in the Durnbach War Cemetery, Germany, Section 4, Row A, Plot 12.
