NSW. Paybook photograph of NX3954 Private Edwin Norman Best, 2/1st Machine Gun Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Best, aged 28, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 20 May 1941. He was the son of Norman and Annie Beatrice Best, of Buxton, NSW.
