NSW. Paybook photograph of NX5132 Private Frederick William Cockrill, 2/4th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Cockrill, aged 37, drowned during the evacuation of Crete on 29 May 1941, after defending the island of against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Mr and Mrs Frederick William Cockrill, and the husband of Lilian R. Cockrill, of Plumpton, NSW. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 11.
