NSW. Paybook photograph of NX7755 Private Victor Wallace Gilligan, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Gilligan, aged 23, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 20 May 1941. He was the son of James W. Gilligan and Mariette Gilligan, of Paddington, NSW. He is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery Section 1, Row B, Plot 10. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency.
