NSW. May 1940. Paybook photograph of NX12481 Lieutenant Albert Allan Herron, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Lieutenant Herron, aged 25, died on 31 May 1941, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being captured defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Henry and Emily Ethel Herron, of Strathfield, NSW. He is buried in the Phaleron War Cemetery Section 3, Row A, Plot 11.
