NSW. Paybook photograph of NX13130 Private Frederick John Larter, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Larter, aged 41, died on 16 September 1943, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being captured defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Daniel and Lena Larter, of Sydney, NSW. He is buried in the Durnbach War Cemetery, Germany, Section 4, Row A, Plot 9.
