NSW. Paybook photograph of NX13192 Private Vincent Connelly Smith, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Smith, aged 33, died on 2 June 1941 as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being captured on 31 May 1941 while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Henry and Ellen Smith, and the husband of Alma Grace Mead Smith, of Redfern, NSW. He is buried in the Phaleron War Cemetery Section 3, Row A, Plot 6.
