NSW. Paybook photograph of NX13213 Private Kevin George Mears, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Mears, aged 23, died on 27 June 1941, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being reported missing in action on 1 June 1941 while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was the son of Christopher Bailey Mears and Eliza Lena Mears, and the husband of Beryl Janetta May Mears, of Cooks Hill, NSW. He is buried in the Phaleron War Cemetery Section 3, Row A, Plot 13.
