NSW. May 1940. Paybook photograph of NX14183 Private Leslie William Sammons, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Sammons, aged 41, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 29 May 1941. He was the son of Henry James Sammons and Isabelle Sammons and the husband of Lillian Isabelle Sammons, of Lakemba, NSW. He is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery Section 1, Row E, Plot 10.
