NSW. May 1940. Paybook photograph of NX14286 Private Arthur Ernest Wright, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Wright, aged 25, was captured and taken Prisoner of War (POW) whilst defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He and his friend NX14293 Cyril New drowned whilst trying to escape from POW camp Stalag XIIIc on 1 September 1944. He was the son of Arthur Stuart Wright and Charlotte Jane Wright, of Dubbo, NSW.
