NSW. May 1940. Paybook photograph of NX15340 Private Ronald John Humphreys, 2/1st Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Humphreys, aged 29, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 24 May 1941. He was the son of Dorcas Humphreys and the husband of Myrtle Rose Humphreys, of Marrickville, NSW. He is buried in the Suda Bay Cemetery Section 5, Row A, Plot 10.
